LCD Soundsystem Breaking Up

February 8, 2011

Less than a week after the White Stripes announced their split in shocking fashion, electronic outfit LCD Soundsystem revealed the date and location of their final show together, an April 2nd swan song at New York’s historic Madison Square Garden.

As the White Stripes used Jack White’s Third Man Records website to break the news, LCD mastermind James Murphy and company announced the decision via the band’s website.

Don't forget, James Murphy wants you to wear black and white attire to his LCD encore. Ecstasy shades are encouraged.

The public address was as promising as any die-hard fan could hope for, noting,“we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours–playing stuff we’ve never played before and going out with a bang.” The encore invitation was even playful, requesting fans dress in “black and white,” for what will undoubted one bass-driven, flashy dance party of a funeral.

If you can call it that.

If it’s a funeral, let’s have the best funeral ever!!!

Murphy and his bandmates are calling it quits after a 10-year career, that included three studio albums, three Grammy awards (not that anyone really cares) and a resume that includes performances on some of today’s hottest stages.

But this band isn’t done showing what it can truly do on the right night.

Fellow disco-punk brethren and New York natives Liquid Liquid will serve as the opening act for the night’s festivities.

Tickets for the hottest “funeral” since James Brown’s glorious descent into this Earth go on sale Friday, February 11. They are available on the Bowery Presents website and Ticketmaster.

Further information on the event will be posted via the band’s website and Pitchfork on Tuesday.
