Elton John Returning to SNL with Leon Russell

March 23, 2011

NBC announced today that Sir Elton John will be returning to Saturday Night Live for the first time in 29 years. This time, the infamous performer will pull double weight, acting as host and musical guest for the April 2nd episode.

John joins the likes of the Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, Willie Nelson, MC Hammer, Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift in undertaking the dual-role of host and performer. (Funny to have an achievement list with Frank Zappa and Taylor Swift in the same sentence.)

Sir Elton John will have the honor of serving as both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live this April 2nd.

Sharing the stage with John is recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Leon Russell, whose collaborative album with John, The Union, was released last year. The show’s broadcast will be a special moment for Russell, as it falls on his 69th birthday.

Saturday Night Live airs on NBC on Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Side note: The Foo Fighters, whose new album drops April 12, will serve as musical guest on Saturday Night Live’s April 9th episode.
