Coldplay at London 2012 Olympic Games?

April 18, 2011

Last week, a source at the Daily Mirror, a U.K.-based news website, cited the possibility that Coldplay, along with Muse and Damon Albarn (Blur/The Good, The Bad and the Queen/Gorillaz), have been asked to write the official anthem to the 2012 Olympic Games.

Rumors were strong that Coldplay, most specifically lead singer Chris Martin, have been requested to open London’s Olympic ceremonies, noting…“Chris is at the top of the list to front the official record. We’re pulling out all the stops to get Chris, ideally with the rest of Coldplay involved too.”

If viewers arent treated to a dazzling performance by Londons finest musicians, at least theyll enjoy one of the many vibrant logos of the 2012 games! Yay!

However, the fire of these rumors has quickly fizzled, with the Daily Mirror’s article now withdrawn, while music news site NME.com has also dropped their original posting on the topic.

No members of Coldplay or Muse, or Damon Albarn himself, have confirmed nor denied their roles in London’s 2012 opening ceremonies.

One thing is for sure. London better pull all the tricks out of their bag if they want to come close to Beijing’s bedazzling 2008 ceremony, including thousands of pulsating drummers, spectacular firework fireworks (special effects or not) and a badass lip-sync solo by a nine-year-old girl.
