Josh Homme Pens New “Aqua Unit Patrol Squad One” Theme

April 27, 2011

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is arguably the perennial program of Cartoon Network’s late-night history. Airing since late 2000, the fan favorite is now the longest tenured original series of the Adult Swim catalog, with 100 episodes across seven seasons.

Frylock, Master Shake and Meatwad will be invading your television sets to a new theme song starting May 8th.

And yet, that’s not stopping creators Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis from pursuing a new format for the series, known as Aqua Unit Patrol Squad One, which inherits the series’ main characters, Frylock, Master Shake and Meatwad, placing them within a ‘crime-fighting’ theme. (Actually the original, yet never-before-seen layout for the series.

Rapper Schooly D took the mic and composed an unforgettable original theme song for Aqua Teen Hunger Force, however this go-around will feature a different pair of more rock-oriented figures.

Josh Homme, lead singer/guitarist of Queens of the Stone Age, teamed up with backing guitarist Alain Johannes to compose the new theme song, which has a spiffy ‘Frank Zappa’ sound.

You can hear it for yourself below:

The series premier airs Sunday, May 8th on Adult Swim
