Explosions in the Sky Release First Music Video in 12 Year Career

June 23, 2011

Texas-based rock group Explosions in the Sky have released their first music video, after 12 years of recording and performing epic instrumentals fit for the grandest of odysseys.

With a name like "Explosions in the Sky," its hard to believe these guys withheld temptation to produce an epic music video for over 12 years.

The music video, first released on Wired, is for their song “Last Known Surroundings,” off their latest record Take Care, Take Care, Take Care. Constructed by Austin, Texas design studio Ptarmak, alongside illustrator Sissy Emmons and animator David Hobizal, this eight-minute video is like an animated rubix cube of imagination.

In an age where music videos are as vital to an artist’s career as iTunes cataloging, it is refreshing to see a group resist temptations, or rather just ignore the call for music video production. Then again, Explosions in the Sky were never a band to cater to the mainstream formula.
