John Stewart to Interview Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic for Sirius XM Tribute to ‘Nevermind’

August 25, 2011

Chalk up some brownie points for Sirius XM.

Apparently, naming a channel devoted to 1990s alternative "Lithium" wasn't as honorable of a recognition Sirius XM could bestow to Nirvana. Rather, a six-day celebration of the band will do...

The satellite radio giant has drawn up a mighty celebration for the 20th anniversary of Nevermind, the landmark album by 1990s alternative rock band Nirvana. Highlighting this celebration is an intriguing ‘Town Hall-esque’ interview session. At 8 p.m. EST on September 24th, the anniversary of the album’s release, John Stewart will conduct an interview with the band’s surviving members, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, as well as the album’s producer Butch Vig. The program, known as Sirius XM’s Town Hall with Nirvana, will include a live audience, who will interject with questions and comments, not excluding calls from nation-wide listeners.

The feature will run on Sirius’ “Lithim” channel (34), which broadcasts 1990s alternative daily.

“This is our way to honor the artists who, with the release of Nevermind, influenced a generation and marked a change in the course of music history no generation will ever forget,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. “Our ‘Town Hall’ series offers our listeners a rare chance to meet some of the most important and influential artists of our time.”

From September 23rd (3 p.m. EST) to September 28th (noon EST), the Lithium channel will become ‘Nevermind Radio,’ airing content purely related to the band and its revolutionary influence, including live performances, rarities, classic interviews and full, uninterrupted playing of albums.

That’s quite an honor from one of the music industry’s leading broadcasters.

The fact that they were able to rope John Stewart into this is amazing. Maybe he can draw some response from Grohl or Novoselic on the Courtney Love assassination conspiracy?

Probably not. Should be cool anyways.
