Baskettcase: Achtung! A Special U2 Reissue Is Coming!
A Column by Jeremy Baskett
Love them, or hate them, U2 is one of the greatest bands of all time.
Bono and the gang have been rousing packed venues for over 30 years now; amazingly, all with the same original lineup. Although U2’s debut album Boy was a nice initial blast, it wasn’t until the release of Joshua Tree that Irish rockers became giants. Years later, Joshua Tree is now often considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Likewise, it still remains as one of my favorites today.
And yet, Joshua Tree is not the subject of today’s news. Rather, it’s another U2 classic that’s slated for a special re-release soon.
U2 recently announced for the 20 year anniversary of their album Achtung Baby, they will be releasing a special edition covers album. Information is still very limited on who exactly will be on the album, and which band will be covering what. As of now, we know that contributors such as Jack White (Love is Blindness), Depeche Mode (So Cruel), Patti Smith (Until the End of the World) and Damian Rice (One) will be involved.
Bono released this information while doing press at the Toronto Film Festival for the band’s new documentary “From the Sky Down.” The band will also be reissuing their version of Achtung Baby in an elaborate box set featuring five 7-inch singles in replica packaging, a hardcover book, and a replica pair of Bono’s famous sunglasses, amongst others fan favorites.
There has not been any announcement for a release of either the covers or reissued album as of yet. Until then, put on a pair of Bono shades and scream at the top of your lungs, “YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!!”
