Jay-Z To Perform at Brooklyn Nets’ New Home

September 27, 2011

When Jay-Z takes the stage next fall at the Barclays Center, will it be the first time a performer of this magnitude performed at a major venue that they helped build?

A part-owner of the New Jersey Nets NBA franchise, rapper Jay-Z has been integral in moving voicing his desire to move the team to Brooklyn for years.

Now the new Barclays Center is practically completed, with the Nets ready to make the jump to Brooklyn in time for the 2012 season. However, the Nets new arena, which sits at the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues just south of downtown Brooklyn, will enjoy quite a tip-off next fall, not excluding basketballs.

Jay-Z, born Shawn Corey Carter, stated today at a Nets press conference his intentions to schedule multiple concerts at Barclays prior to the start of the season. The rapper is expected to perform as many as eight possible shows, with the inclusion of his wife, performer and mega-songstress Beyonce. (If you didn’t fucking know that already.)

Call it an arena warm-up sesh…in the house that Jay built.

“Maybe one, maybe two, maybe three,” Carter, said Monday from the construction site. “I sound like LeBron.”

LeBron quip before the backboards are installed? We like it.
